Kiku, or chrysanthemums in Japanese, symbolizes longevity and rejuvenation. Three hummingbirds is a play on the sound of the number 3 (三) in Cantonese (sāang or 生) which means “to live” or “life”. With the fluttering wings of the hummingbirds that move in an infinity pattern, the artist further enhances the theme of eternity and continuity.
